Saxon de Cocq, Hannah Hermanson and Ell McEachern of 3 Story Pictures are extremely pleased to announce that production has begun on 300 Years of War, the 8×60 documentary series that explores the dramatic journey of Indigenous war heroes, who fought in the biggest conflicts of the last three centuries, which will air on APTN in 2027.The series host is Ross Pambrun (Red River Gold).
The series is being filmed August 19, 2026 – September 30, 2026 in Outlook, Elbow, Lumsden, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Calgary, Alberta.
Through the warrior’s personal journey, we learn about their background, the specific battle they fought in, the larger war that framed it, and what it meant to be Indigenous during these moments in history; while serving in national and global conflicts. Beyond the personal story, the series delves into the tactical strategies used by the Indigenous nations in battle.
Set against the backdrop of historical military conflicts, 300 Years of War explores the inherited skills of Indigenous warriors, while dissecting a military engagement, operation, or campaign from some of the largest global conflicts – from WWI, WW2, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, to national and continental engagements throughout the centuries, such as The War of 1812, the Battle of Batoche or The Beaver Wars, and the Boer Wars. These battles are explored through the journey of an Indigenous soldier who took part in that specific engagement. Their story and the battle they took part in is brought to life through cinematic reenactments, supplemented with archival footage and imagery, firsthand accounts through audio recordings of the subjects, artifacts and interviews with historical experts and relatives of the service member.
