AMC is officially back in the Dark Winds business. Today, AMC and AMC+ released the “suspenseful official trailer” for Dark Winds, ahead of its return for the “highly anticipated fourth season” on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Season 4 will unfold across eight hour-long episodes and centers on “the search for a missing Navajo girl,” a case that pulls Lt. Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito far beyond the Navajo Nation and into the “gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles.” The investigation becomes “a race against the clock” as they work to save her from “an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime.” New episodes will air weekly on Sundays.

Executive produced by Robert Redford and George R. R. Martin, Dark Winds enters its fourth season with a “100% Rotten Tomatoes score” across its first three seasons. The series stars Zahn McClarnon as Lt. Joe Leaphorn, with Season 4 marking his “eagerly awaited television directorial debut.” McClarnon is joined by Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito, and Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn.

Together, the trio portrays members of the Navajo Tribal Police “solving mysteries on their reservation” amid “increasingly violent crimes in the 1970s.” The first three seasons are currently available on AMC+ and via The AMC Collection on Netflix.

Season 4 also expands the cast with a lineup of new faces. Franka Potente joins as Irene Vaggan, while Isabel DeRoy-Olson plays Billie Tsosie, described as “a decisive and resourceful Navajo teenager” who wants “the freedom to connect with her people outside of her boarding school,” only to find herself “in over her head with only her cunning and resilience keeping her alive.” Chaske Spencer appears as Sonny, “a recruiter for a Los Angeles crime ring” who uses “charm and menace” to lure young Native men into a life of crime. The season also introduces Luke Barnett as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw and Titus Welliver as Dominic McNair, “a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods.” A. Martinez returns as Acting Chief Gordo Sena.

Based on the Leaphorn and Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds was created by Graham Roland, with John Wirth serving as showrunner. The executive producing team includes McClarnon, Chris Eyre, Anne Hillerman, and others who continue to shape one of television’s most compelling Indigenous-led crime dramas.
