AMC and AMC+ have released the first teaser and images for Season 4 of Dark Winds, and the energy around this return is undeniable. The series returns Sunday, February 15, at 9 pm ET/PT with eight hour-long episodes airing weekly, and everything about this first look signals a season that goes bigger, darker, and deeper.
Dark Winds has earned a reputation as one of the most compelling series on television. With a perfect score for the first three seasons on Rotten Tomatoes, the show has maintained a loyal following by staying true to the show’s engaging characters, setting, storylines, and the tension that simmers beneath every scene.
Season 4 is set to focus on “the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime”.
This season also marks an exciting personal milestone for Zahn McClarnon. The second episode, airing February 22, is his television directorial debut, a natural next step and one that longtime viewers will be eager to see.
The core cast returns, with McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito, and Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn. But Season 4 expands the world with a strong slate of new characters, including “Franka Potente (Run Lola Run, The Bourne Supremacy) as Irene Vaggan; Isabel DeRoy-Olson (Fancy Dance) as Billie Tsosie, a decisive and resourceful Navajo teenager who wants nothing more than the freedom to connect with her people outside of her boarding school but quickly finds herself in over her head with only her cunning and resilience keeping her alive; Chaske Spencer (The Twilight Saga, Blindspot) as Sonny, a recruiter for a Los Angeles crime ring who through his charm and menace lure young Native American men recently relocated to the city from their reservations into a life of crime; Luke Barnett (The Crossing Over Express) as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw who arrives searching for answers to a mystery involving one of his friends; and Titus Welliver (Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, Ricky, Abraham’s Boys) as Dominic McNair, a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles. Season 4 also sees the return of A. Martinez (Longmire, Days of Our Lives) as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena”.
With its expanded landscape, high stakes, and creative growth behind the scenes, Season 4 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated chapters yet.
Based on the Leaphorn and Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds was created by Graham Roland and is showrun by John Wirth. The executive producing team includes Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Zahn McClarnon, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, and Anne Hillerman, among others.
For anyone who needs to catch up, the first three seasons are currently streaming on AMC+ and through The AMC Collection on Netflix.
