Editorial Guidelines

Our Misson

The mission of Red Pop! News is to bring readers informed, thoughtful, and engaging coverage of Indigenous creativity across pop culture, entertainment, the arts, and community storytelling. We are committed to uplifting Indigenous voices, spotlighting work that deserves attention, and creating space for coverage that is sharp, accessible, and rooted in care for the communities we serve.

Editorial Standards

Red Pop! News contributors are expected to approach their work with professionalism, curiosity, and respect for both the people they cover and the readers they write for. Our editorial standards require reporting and criticism that is well-researched, clear, and compelling, and grounded in a strong understanding of the subjects being covered.

We believe thoughtful criticism and cultural reporting should be accessible, conversational, and meaningful to a broad readership. We aim to celebrate Indigenous creativity without flattening it, and to cover pop culture with depth, context, and accountability. Writers are expected to follow our in-house style standards and to bring care, accuracy, and subject knowledge to every assignment.

Editorial Independence

Red Pop! News maintains editorial independence in all coverage decisions. Editorial direction is determined by the editorial team, not by advertisers, sponsors, partners, or outside interests. Any coverage involving internal projects, partnerships, or paid relationships will include a clear disclosure. Sponsored content, advertorials, and other paid placements will always be labeled as such.

Reviews, Embargoes, and Advance Access

The Red Pop! News editorial team respects embargoes, screening restrictions, and other agreed-upon release terms tied to advance access. These agreements do not influence editorial opinion. Reviews reflect the perspective of the writer and are not shaped by studios, publicists, filmmakers, publishers, or outside stakeholders.

We are committed to publishing criticism from a range of voices while holding all reviewers to high editorial standards. Critics may access films, television, books, games, music, exhibitions, or other works through advance screeners, press access, review copies, or public events. When reimbursement is appropriate and pre-approved, Red Pop! News may cover necessary access costs. Reviews and critical essays remain the sole opinion of the writer.

Coverage Integrity

Red Pop! News staff and contributors may sometimes accept press access, travel support, lodging, or event credentials to cover festivals, premieres, conventions, exhibits, or other experiences relevant to our readers. That access does not guarantee favorable coverage, editorial approval, or influence over the final story. Coverage decisions remain independent, and outside entities do not review or approve editorial content before publication, except in rare cases involving factual verification.

Conflicts of Interest

Because Red Pop! News exists within a vibrant network of Indigenous creatives, organizers, artists, and cultural workers, we recognize that relationships and community connections are often part of this work. Contributors must disclose any personal, professional, or financial relationship that could create a real or perceived conflict of interest.

Writers will not review work where impartiality could reasonably be questioned. Features, interviews, essays, and community-centered coverage may involve collaborators, peers, and colleagues, but those relationships must be handled transparently and separately from criticism. Our goal is to protect editorial trust while still honoring the interconnected nature of Indigenous creative communities.
