As the first day of school approaches, more than 40 kids at Crystal Boarding School in Navajo, New Mexico, will be stepping into their classrooms with something many of us take for granted: a brand-new pair of shoes.
This back-to-school gift comes through the heart and hustle of acclaimed Navajo singer-songwriter Razor Saltboy, who teamed up with his longtime friend, actor and World Youth Clubs Global Ambassador Beau Bridges, and the Rick and Susan Goings Foundation to make it happen.
For Saltboy, this isn’t just about dropping off supplies.
“This is about more than footwear,” he shared. “It’s about giving these kids a sense of pride as they walk into their classrooms.”
On August 27th, students at Crystal Boarding School, from kindergarteners just finding their footing to sixth graders stepping into their last elementary school year, will receive a pair of new shoes. The donation was made possible through the Rick and Susan Goings Foundation, which co-founded World Youth Clubs (WYC), an organization dedicated to creating safe, supportive spaces for young people worldwide.
Crystal Boarding School serves children from Navajo families, many of whom face economic hardships. For these kids, a fresh pair of shoes is a visible reminder that their community and allies believe in them.
Saltboy, whose music blends Navajo traditions with the storytelling soul of country, has always carried his people with him, whether on stage or in community work. His efforts show how artists can use their platform to create real-world impact, beyond the spotlight.
Beau Bridges, known for his decades of work in film and television, has also built a legacy as an advocate for youth. His partnership with World Youth Clubs reflects his lifelong commitment to making sure kids have safe, creative, and empowering spaces to grow.
World Youth Clubs is the only international network of its kind, helping communities build local youth organizations that offer mentorship, resources, and opportunities to thrive. For the students of Crystal Boarding School, this collaboration between Saltboy, Bridges, and WYC represents something bigger than a single day of giving. It’s a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported as they continue their educational journey.
Crystal Boarding School may be small, but this kind of partnership shows just how powerful community care can be. A pair of shoes might seem like a small thing, but for these kids, it’s the first step into a school year filled with possibility.
