The Linden Museum Stuttgart will be hosting the European premiere of “Navajo Highways”, the children’s series created by musician and filmmaker Pete Sands, on December 14, 2025. Beginning at 16:30, the museum will exclusively screen several episodes, including a brand new Christmas episode.
“Navajo Highways” is a children’s series that blends puppetry and live action to teach Diné bizaad. It serves to introduce young viewers to Navajo culture. The story follows Sadie, a city girl spending the summer with her grandmother on the Navajo Nation. Through her adventures with both puppet and human characters, she learns language, community values, and the everyday beauty of Diné life. The series gives Navajo children a chance to see themselves on screen and supports families working to keep the language strong.
Sands first visited Stuttgart in February 2025 as a guest of INDIGEN, the North America Film Festival. His music and storytelling connected with festival attendees, and the puppet work he shared offered a first look at the heart behind “Navajo Highways.” It was that visit and performance that helped set the stage for the upcoming screening at the Linden Museum Stuttgart.
After the screening, Sands will join the audience online for a live conversation moderated by Dr. Sonja Schierle, North America curator (retired) and co-founder of INDIGEN, the North America Film Festival.
