Good news for NoN fans above the border: North of North returns September 8. Bad news for everyone else: that date is Canada’s alone. Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the rest of us.
North of North was created by Inuk filmmakers Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril of Red Marrow Media, who created, wrote, and executive produced alongside Miranda de Pencier of Northwood Entertainment. Co-commissioned by CBC and Netflix in association with APTN, it was Netflix’s first original Canadian series, and it proved to be a smart investment. North of North was the most-watched original in CBC Gem’s history, earning a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series won nine Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Comedy Series, and was a top-ten watch in 33 countries.
When does North of North season 2 premiere?
Tuesday, September 8, on CBC and CBC Gem, with the first two episodes running back-to-back from 9 p.m. ET. The date was dropped in CBC’s fall lineup announcement this week, which also slots the premiere directly after the launch of Son of a Critch‘s fifth and final season.
What about Netflix?
Netflix has not announced a global premiere date. North of North aired in Canada in January 2025, but didn’t reach Netflix until April 10. If the same gap holds, a late-2026 release date is likely. Hopefully, Netflix will let us know when the rest of us can expect to return to Ice Cove because the anticipation is excruciating!

Where did season 1 leave off?
The first season introduced Siaja, a young Inuk mother who blows up her marriage to the town’s golden boy in front of the entire community and must rebuild her life in the aftermath. Across eight episodes, she took a job at the community center under the relentlessly upbeat Helen, felt out a connection with Kuuk, and met her father Alistair for the first time. She also learned from Neevee that she has a sister she’s never met. The season ended with that thread deliberately dangling.
What’s coming in season 2?
Nobody’s giving up plot specifics, but Lambe claims season 2 is crazier than the first and, more bluntly, the hardest thing she’s ever filmed. Whether she means emotionally or physically remains to be seen, but they did spend four consecutive weeks working in temperatures near -50. Her verdict is that it was worth it and she can’t wait for audiences to see the new season. She’s said she couldn’t imagine how the creators would top season 1, but somehow that’s exactly what they did.
Just as Lambe can’t wait for audiences to see the new season, those of us in the audience are just as excited to get back to Ice Cove.
