After winning the 2026 Tromsø Palm for Best Short Film at the Tromsø International Film Festival, BORDERLINE will make its North American Premiere at the 2026 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, running June 2–7, 2026.

Set in a remote northern region where Norway, Finland, and Sweden meet, BORDERLINE follows a tense encounter between a Norwegian customs officer, a Finnish poacher, and a mysterious Swedish traveler. As suspicion grows and misunderstandings surface, the characters are forced to confront questions of power, identity, and control at a volatile border crossing.

Blending sharp tension with moments of humor, the film explores how quickly perception can shift under pressure, and how fragile authority becomes when trust erodes.

BORDERLINE is a true family collaboration, directed and produced by Johannes Vang, written by Wilhelmina Silba (Vang), and edited by Jonathan Vang. Together, they represent an exciting new wave of international filmmaking talent emerging from the Sámi community, bringing distinct and urgent perspectives from northern Europe to the global stage.

All three filmmakers will be in attendance at imagineNATIVE, marking a significant moment not only for the film, but for the continued visibility and recognition of Sámi and Indigenous voices in international cinema.

Wilhelmina Silba (Vang) is an emerging Sámi writer whose work signals a bold new voice in Indigenous storytelling, while Jonathan Vang’s editorial work reflects a sharp and intuitive cinematic sensibility. Johannes Vang, also selected as a 2026 Indigenous Cinema Alliance Fellow, continues to build a growing international profile as a filmmaker committed to elevating Indigenous narratives.

Borderline will premiere Thu, Jun 4th, 8:30 PM @ TIFF Lightbox, Cinema 2, and beginning June 8, 10:00 AM – June 14, 11:59 PM, 2026, the film will stream online.

Johannes Vang will also participate on a panel entitled Indigenous Resistance in the Industry + Building Cross-Racial Solidarity Panel,  to take place Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1:45 PM – 3 PM at The Well – Wellington Event Venue.
