On October 11, 2025, The Friends of the San Juans will host an event that reminds us why water is life. Spirit of Water brings together song, story, and ceremony to honor the Salish Sea, the Indigenous peoples who have protected it for generations, and the orcas whose survival depends on it.

The evening starts at Brickworks with a Seafood Feast from 5 to 6 PM, prepared by Lummi Nation fisherwoman and chef Teja Julius. Guests will enjoy salmon and shellfish, traditional foods of Coast Salish communities. The meal also supports Friends of the San Juans’ educational programs in local schools, keeping the next generation connected to the waters they live alongside.

At 6:30 PM, Chenoa Egawa (Lummi/S’Klallam) will take the stage. Egawa is an artist, storyteller, and advocate. Through her stories, songs, and ceremonies, Chenoa connects ancestral knowledge to the urgent need to protect the Salish Sea. Those who join leave not just moved but ready to stand for the waters that give life to all beings.
